It’s that time of year again – Me Made May 2015!

What is Me-Made-May’15?

‘Me-Made-May’15 (#mmmay15 for social media interaction) is a challenge designed to encourage people who sew/knit/crochet/refashion/upcycle garments for themselves to actually wear and love them. The me-made and self-stitched challenges have been taking place for five years now and they work on both a personal and community level. The participants decide the specifics of their own challenge pledge, so that the month is appropriate and challenging for them. For example, a very common pledge is for a participant to aim to wear one self-stitched or refashioned garment each day for the duration of May 2015. The participants can also choose to document their challenge with daily photos (though this is in no way compulsory for taking part) and share them with other participants.’

This years pledge

Last year I made things difficult for myself by pledging no repeats. Although I did manage to achieve this by swapping around tops and cardies by the end of the month I was a little desperate!   It was good to know that I had enough clothes to see me through but what killed me was only being able to wear favourite outfits just the once!

This year I am pledging to wear all me made clothes (apart from Jeans, bras and maybe the odd pair of socks) along with me made knitwear and knickers for the whole month of May.

I have thankfully lost a little weight so should be able to fit into last year’s clothes. If not I may spend the first couple of weeks in Lady Skaters and Weekend Doris’!  I’ll be posting daily blurry bathroom selfies on instagram.  I have finally realised that I can link my instagram account (justsewtherapeutic) up to my twitter account (helen_justsew) so they’ll probably end up on there too.  (I’m trying to persevere a bit with twitter, although I am a little worried about adding to the time sink of Instagram and Feebly.  I do spend a fair amount of time admiring others projects when I should be getting on with my own!)

Are you joining along this year and if so what are you pledging?

    • I’m really looking forward to it but will never pledge no repeats again, it was far too hard! The me made knicker pledge worked though as I’ve carried on all year with those! Looking forward to seeing your pledge! x

  1. Awesome! I am joining and this is my first MMM challenge. I have kept it simple and pledged to wear at least 1 me made item every day of the week.

    • It is great fun, you’ll love it! I was so close to buying some of the bunny toadstool fabric you used for your little dresses last weekend, they are adorable! Unfortunately I’ve only go boys to sew for and figured I couldn’t really get away with wearing it at my age! x

  2. Darn I was hoping to be more ready for MMM this year. Maybe I can make a small pledge, since I don’t know if I quite have the wardrobe yet to pull it off. I definitely am going to try to wear more me made stuff next month. I just followed you on Twitter as I am trying to get more into it as well :o)

  3. Looking forward to seeing your Me Mades next month! I won’t be participating as my little ones have not gotten the memo that Momma needs time to sew 😉 Maybe next year… I certainly have the patterns and the fabric to see me through a whole month!

    • I didn’t get time to do anything when mine was little so I really feel for you. It does get easier as they get older though especially when they start school. Hopefully this time next year you’ll have been able to grab some much needed time for yourself! x

  4. awesome pledge! looking forward to seeing your mmmay progress. i’m taking part too but only pledging to wear at least one me made per day no further specifics. I deleted my twitter for that very reason – not enough hours in the day for all teh social media! 🙂

  5. That sounds like a good challenge – I wore me-made 4 days a week last year so I am aiming for every day this year. I don’t think could do no repeats as I have a few things that no longer fit!

    • I don’t think I thought the no repeats through, it seemed like a good idea at the time! I’m hoping by the third week I should be able to get back into my summer clothes, that’s if I can stop myself overdosing on chocolate on my non fast days! Really looking forward to seeing your outfits!

Looking forward to seeing your wardrobe 😀
I can’t do it yet as I seem to have an affinity for sewing too small, too dressy or just not me. (I currently have three skirts that are a combination of all three points sitting unworn in my wardrobe atm)

    • There’s nothing worse than sewing things that are too small, it’s a shame you’re not joining in. The need to fit into last years clothes has been the best motivation to lose the winter padding, I couldn’t bear thought of having to sew a whole new wardrobe! x
